This is the ultimate trip for anyone looking to dive with whale sharks and manta rays. The pristine, white sandy beaches and swaying palms complete the image of paradise.
You will arrive in Johannesburg and catch your connecting flight to Inhambane. A short transfer through coconut plantations along sandy roads will take you to the lodge of your choice.
You will immediately feel the relaxed pace of life that is typical of this area. Spend your afternoon relaxing on the beach and prepare for the coming week of exciting diving.
Mozambique has some amazing diving and now is the time to go. The dive sites are still uncrowded and in excellent condition. However, it will not be possible to keep this area a secret for much longer and we recommend going in the next couple of years to see it at its best.
From November to April each year whale sharks visit these waters and there are frequent sightings on the way to the dive sites. Whilst it is possible to see the whale sharks while diving, surface viewing and snorkelling are the most common. Last year, all of our clients who spent a week in Inhambane during this period saw whale sharks.
Manta Reef is easily accessible from Inhambane and has three cleaner stations where you will find manta rays. During the dive settle behind the reef and watch in awe as these graceful creatures glide overhead. The manta rays are resident all year and a week long stay will assure you of some good sightings.
Humpback whales also pass through this area from July to November.
Non divers are well looked after and the resorts have lots of activities (see opposite).
The town of Inhambane is definitely worth a visit. As an old Arab trading port and a portugese colony, it is steeped in history and now has a vibrant market where you can buy local goods.
