The Bazaruto Archipelago offers secluded beaches and breathtaking landscapes making it an ideal location for a romantic break or honeymoon.\r\n
The archipelago is made up of five, sparsely inhabited coral islands in the warm, clear waters of the Mozambique Channel.
You will catch a flight from Johannesburg to Vilanculos, the gateway to the Bazaruto Islands. It is then a short hop to your resort by boat or light aircraft (we will arrange all of the necessary transfers).
Standing on top of the sweeping dunes you can begin to appreciate the bizarre and amazing landscape that makes up the islands. The dunes rise dramatically from the beach providing a natural barrier between the sea and the freshwater, inland lakes. To complete the scene, huge flocks of pelicans and flamingos make their home amongst the tidal pools and coastal lakes.
As if the islands were not strange enough, some of the sea creatures are even more so! The archipelago is home to the largest population of dugongs along the East African coastline. It is possible to see this rare animal forging for food in the shallows off the islands.
The best lodges are located on Bazaruto and Benguerra Islands.
Bazaruto Island is the largest island with towering dunes, lined with thick forests of casuarinas, coconut palms and cashew nuts. The north tip of the island is home to the best diving and these crystal clear waters hold many different species of turtle, dolphin and during season whale sharks may be spotted.
Benguerra has a similar landscape to Bazaruto but has a much larger tidal range. Low tide exposes huge sand bars that stretch for over a kilometre from the island. A short boat ride off the east coast takes you to "Two Mile Reef", one of the best reefs in the Bazaruto. It has impressive coral formations teeming with fish life and Aquarium at the north tip is an absolute must for snorkellers.
